Call Emergency Services Immediately
If there is an emergency or you suspect a safety or medical issue, dial 000 without hesitation - just as you would in any serious situation. Acting quickly can be critical to the safety and wellbeing of the Participant.
Understand Your Responsibility
Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of NDIS participants is everyone’s responsibility. All Independent Support Workers must follow the NDIS Code of Conduct.
Under Elements 5, 6 and 7 of the Code of Conduct, Support Workers are required to:
-
Promptly raise and act on concerns that may affect the quality and safety of supports.
-
Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to violence, exploitation, neglect, and abuse.
-
Take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to sexual misconduct.
Therefore, it is essential that every Support Worker has an emergency and incident management process.
Report and Manage the Incident
After the emergency is over, you must fill out an incident report. Use Kynd’s Incident Report Form, available here.
Writing a clear report helps keep people safe, and makes sure the right steps can be taken next. It's the first step in dealing with what happened properly.

Remember, Identify Emergency Contacts Early!
When you start supporting someone, make sure you know who to contact in an emergency. This could be a family member, friend, or a professional like their Support Coordinator.
Doing this is an important part of your first visit and safety planning.
